Kindergarten Powers!

Super Powers
Kindergarteners have been busy working hard on their sight word power during Reading Workshop, Writing Workshop and Phonics. Young readers have been gaining fluency with these words as they read and reread familiar texts. Kindergarten writers have been learning about the many ways that they can make their writing easy to read. One strategy they have learned is to use their snap words in the narratives that they are writing. These busy scholars have also been practicing, identifying, spelling and recording these words in engaging ways during phonics instruction. As students begin to master these high frequency words, they are gaining reading and writing power that will take them far.

Curious Scientists
Our class was so excited to check out the Fifth Grade Science Fair this week. Students were inspired and blown away by all of the older students’ experiments involving fire, plants, and even cookies! We loved getting the opportunity to watch Kindergarteners ask Fifth Graders tons of questions about their scientific process, and were delighted to hear Kindergarteners carry that curiosity throughout their day. Our classroom was abuzz as students recounted highlights and shared facts they had learned from their older peers. We love the inquisitive minds of our lifelong learners!

Parent Lunch
Kindergarteners were thrilled to welcome parents this week to join us for our Parent Lunch. Students excitedly waited all morning for our special guests. Our class began the day by discussing all of the things we were eager to share. We couldn’t wait to show parents one of our most favorite parts of the day- the opportunity to sit with friends, laugh, and eat. Thank you to those who were able to join us! It warmed our hearts to look around our backyard at TCS families as they ate and laughed together.
