Kindergarteners are Readers!

Reading Workshop
Kindergartners were surprised to receive wrapped presents in Reading Workshop this week. Students raced to open gifts and were excited to find that they contained some of their old favorite storybooks, books we have read together as a class multiple times. Kindergarteners used their familiarity with the stories as well as all of the illustrations to read the stories themselves for the first time. We have been so excited to hear our students begin using storyteller voices and grow their understanding of story structure! Students were excited to bring these favorites home this week to share with their families!

Magical Monarchs
Following our VERY exciting field trip to Cypress Gardens last week, students spent this week launching our Monarch Migration Study in Science! Students spent the week discovering the parts of the Monarch, its lifecycle, all of the necessities it requires to survive, as well as the species’ migration patterns to Mexico. Kindergarteners are very excited to participate this year in the Journey North Symbolic Migration project and will excitedly await the monarchs’ return in the Spring!

Change Makers
Kindergarteners kicked off the week attending our weekly Whole School Morning Meeting, where students discussed noticing a problem and ways they could influence and create change to fix it. Students have spent the week affecting change in their own community. Kindergarteners have been diligent in checking in with hurt friends on the playground, showing kindness, and have been EcoWarriors keeping our backyard clean! We are blown away by all of our Kindergarten compassion!
