Kool Kindergarteners

Cool School

Wow! The Cooper School had such an thrilling week with Channel 2 news coming to our school on Wednesday to talk to all the staff and students about how “cool” our school is and to take footage of students engaged in learning. It was so much fun clapping and cheering all together as Ms. Franci and Mr. Brian received the “cool” school award. Cheering and clapping continued during carpool as we received the news that our tree in Marion Square won for “Most Educational”!!

Kindergarten Writers Explain “How-To” in Their Writing

Kindergarteners eagerly embarked upon an exciting new kind of writing during Writing Workshop this week. Students examined mentor texts to explore how authors write to teach. Students thought about topics they knew well, things they could teach others how to do. Kindergarten writers were quite busy sharing their knowledge on a variety of topics in which they are “experts”. They then took a step back to examine their writing, asking themselves, “Can I follow this?” . From there, writing partners met to share their “How-To” books with each other. Partners were able to ask and answer questions to give each other feedback. Finally, our young writers learned that when teaching others how to do something, labels and diagrams can be used to give even more information.

Bursting Builders

This week Kindergarten builders ended their unit by learning all about the inside of buildings, what their purpose is,  and why buildings are important. Kindergarteners engaged in learning centers to culminate the unit by writing about their favorite part of the unit, acting out “The Three Little Pigs” at imagination station, building a zoo in the block center, and creating their own building in the art center.  Ask your kindergartener all about their favorite part of the buildings unit. IMG_0820 IMG_0821
