Week of February 10-14

We Welcome the Next Group of TCS Students

On Tuesday, February 11th, we welcomed younger siblings of current students. These special young people will join us at TCS next year! First Grade had a total of five younger siblings who visited  for the morning in the kindergarten classroom. Our First Graders joined their younger siblings as they participated in Morning Meeting, and enjoyed Centers, Snack, and Outdoor Time together! It was such a treat for the proud brothers and sisters and a wonderful introduction to TCS for our future students.

All You Need Is Love

Our First Grade Scholars have put their hearts into their compliment books this month!  It began with a discussion and brainstorming session with the class about what vocabulary might be useful in expressing a compliment. This evolved into an extensive word list. Then what a sentence might look like as a compliment was reviewed. From there, the children moved on to composing their 21 compliments, one for each student and teacher, in a rough draft. After reviewing and editing with the teachers, they began their final copies. They have worked so hard to produce them with their best handwriting and correct spelling and punctuation. Many lessons were learned in this project!

Special Spellers

First Grade launched Spelling this week. They were assessed using their most frequently used (Snap Ring) words. From this assessment, the spelling instruction can be individualized to fit their needs as they work in small groups! Students will explore spelling rules and patterns to aid in their ability to spell successfully and accurately. We look forward to their positive outcomes.
