Magic in May

Persuasive Writing
Kindergarten writers have been busy writing up a storm in our persuasive unit! These writers have discovered the formula for sharing their opinions and convincing others. These young writers know that in order to convince someone, they need to give lots of reasons in their writing. Students opened our TCS Post Office to begin writing letters to cast a wider net in their changemaking!

Fluency Partners
Kindergarteners were excited to use all of their reading skills to work with their fluency partners this week! As students have worked to master reading fluently, they know this means sounding less like a robot by smoothing the words out to sound like they do when they talk. Kindergarteners were ready for the challenge. This week, we introduced fluency games to play with partners. Young readers blew us away with their excitement and bravery while building their fluency skills!

We Are Engineers
Kindergarteners have spent the week helping to protect Penny, a puppy in need of some shade in the hot summer sun! Students are reading a case study about siblings, Amir and Maya, and their attempts to engineer a structure for their dog. Students know that engineers Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create, and then Improve to make it better! Kindergarteners spent this week sorting through and deciding which materials were ideal for building. Students can’t wait to begin construction!
