Moving On Up!

Move-Up Day!

Kindergarteners had an exciting week complete with a small field trip to the other building. Students were excited for the chance to get to visit the First Grade classroom to see what next year will look like for them. On Tuesday morning, Kindergarteners gathered with our First Grade teachers, Ms. Erin and Ms. Nancy for a read aloud and tour of the classroom. They were so excited to meet the class pet, Pancake the leopard gecko. Students wrapped up their visit with an introduction to Australian Aboriginal Dot Art, a big First Grade topic! We were excited for our Kindergarteners to return Tuesday afternoon, but couldn’t help but notice how grown up they seemed!

Handwriting Reflection

This week, our class spent lots of time reflecting on their growth this year in preparation for our upcoming Self-Assessment Conferences. Students analyzed a lot of their past work, and spent a lot of time looking at their own handwriting. Kindergarteners compared their handwriting from the beginning of the school year to now, and we were blown away by all of their improvements. After looking at how far they’d come, students took the opportunity to write their alphabet and compare it to a model text. Comparing the two, students circled the letters they noticed they needed to work most on to really improve their handwriting! We are so proud of all of their big kid reflections!

Community Building & Bonding

With all of their hard work this week, Kindergarteners were excited to take the opportunity to celebrate how far they have come and to continue to build bonds in our classroom. We have had some rainy weather this week and decided to get creative with our indoor lunch seating arrangement. We rearranged furniture in our classroom this week to give Kindergarteners the opportunity to eat lunch as a whole group at one long banquet table! Students shared funny stories, compared lunches, and talked all about their exciting days. We couldn’t wait for Thursday afternoon for our big Kindergarten Bonding activity after school! Students gathered around our banquet table for pizza and rainbow looming, and were excited to switch roles with their teachers and school us a bit on their happy crafting! Our class has a very special bond that we are so proud of!
