The Cooper School Daily

Our Busy Week in Second Grade!

Reading this week!

In reading, second graders are learning about different story elements! Your expert readers are using their skills to differentiate between first person narrative and third person narrative. They can identify the main character before even opening the book! All week students discussed story elements as well as their opinions on their books in their own Cooper School Book Clubs!

Second Graders have a lot of Opinions!

This week in writing, our class started a new unit on Opinion Writing! After brainstorming about the many topics that bring them joy, they began writing. Second graders are challenging themselves to add many reasons and personal experiences to make a strong point for their readers.

Empathy in our Classroom!

Second graders are learning about the meaning and understanding of having empathy at The Cooper School. They are creating and decorating a shoe to represent, “walking in someone else’s shoe.” On their shoes students will write about when they felt empathy and when they have shown empathy. As well as the importance of empathy in our life.
