Reading Surprises in Third Grade

Reading

In our Reading to Learn unit this week, students learned how to preview a book. We also learned that even after you think you know how the book is going to go, there can be surprises that teach you something new. Using sticky notes to identify places that surprised us, we shared with a partner a fact that we didn’t already know.

Math

Students jumped into module 2 of math this week starting with exploration of time using a stopwatch. Students related skip-counting by fives and telling time to the number line. We used the method of the number bond learned in module 1 to decompose 60 minutes on a clock. We are excited to continue learning about time measurement and problem solving!

Social Studies

The Change-Makers unit is in full swing! This week students have been applying their researching skills while learning more about their activists. The big 5Ws (who, what, when, where, why) have guided students’ research and they have gathered enough information to begin working on their speeches!
