The Cooper School Daily

Reboot

Ahhh…Spring Break! A time to have fun, but also a break to help us finish the school year in full gear. Let’s give ourselves a round of applause because EVERYONE came back to school ready to work with gusto. Your sons and daughters were excited to share their stories about seeing family, staying home to relax, and taking exciting trips. This week has been productive and enjoyable since we all came back rested and excited to be back together at school.

What’s happening in Social Studies:
This week in Social Studies, historians created fictitious characters from Native American civilizations. The Mayan, Incan, Aztec, and other civilizations were represented. Historians created journals or graphic novels to tell the historically accurate stories of their characters.

What’s up in Math?
Fifth Graders are applying their knowledge of dividing whole numbers by unit fractions to solve-multi-step word problems. We are coming near the end of this module. We will be finishing up lesson 33 next week, then we will review for our End-of Module 4 Assessment, which will be on Friday, April 16th!

Sixth Graders have been practicing writing mathematical expressions and distributing expressions with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Students are reading mathematical expressions and learning how to use letters to replace digits. We have been using math manipulatives to help conceptualize a deeper understanding when it comes to visualizing and creating mathematical expressions.

In Writing:
Writers were excited to find out that the charity for this year’s Pass-it-On books will be the Ronald McDonald House! Poets had a great time writing tribute poems for this charity, and are eager to find out who this year’s TCS tribute poem winner will be!
Journalists also enjoyed learning about the interview process, and are off to a great start preparing for their two interviews, which will be due next Tuesday, April, 13th!

Important Dates:
April 14- Folly Beach Field Trip
May 7th- Virtual Pass It On (viewing information will be sent home soon)- Half Day
May 31- Memorial Day-No School
