Second Grade Fun!!!!

Cooper Village

Each member of our class will be presenting at the Cooper Village Grand Opening. Second Graders have been practicing their public speaking with partners and in front of a large crowd. They will be presenting their businesses, their natural disaster preparations and their entire town on Wednesday, February 26th!

Reminder: By now you have received the invitation for the Grand Opening of Cooper Village on Wednesday, February 26th at 8:15 am.  Students will be dressing up as their Cooper Village profession. Please remember to send your child to school in their costume on Wednesday! This is a very fun project to do with your Second Grader!

Phonics

Phonics in Second Grade is called “Word Study”. Second Graders learn all about using their phonics skills to take apart and put together words. This unit’s focus has been on solving challenging multisyllabic words. We have learned not to just skip those tricky words but to stop, tackle, and check them. Students are taught how to sound words out, how to break words into chunks, and spotting where to make those breaks. Second Graders love hearing from our class mascot, Gus the Dragon, and teaching him to solve challenging words.

Board Game Social

On Thursday Second Grade scholars enjoyed an afternoon “social” playing board games. Scholars had so much fun playing their favorite games such as Trouble, Guess Who, Candyland and so many more. Some scholars even learned how to play some new board games from their peers. Scholars also got to enjoy delicious snacks while playing.
