Second Grade News!

Measuring Units!

Second graders have begun a new math unit. This week we began learning about measuring lengths. To begin, we began by measuring a string using pipe cleaners and cubes! Students had to find the lengths using different units to determine the length of the string. Second graders learned that all measurements need to have units to ensure the lengths are the same!

Getting in the Spooky Spirit!

To prepare for Halloween students have had the opportunity to read Halloween books in class. From skeletons to mummies to pumpkins, these books have great illustrations and reading for all levels! Students love to hear different Halloween stories that get them excited for the upcoming holiday!

Non-fiction Experts!

Second graders are working on nonfiction reading and becoming experts of their books. When there are tricky words, students roll up their sleeves to sound out the words that can be very important vocabulary for their topic. Once they have read and re-read the paragraph they had the chance to share with the class! Students shared an important sentence or excerpt from their reading to educate their fellow classmates about the non-fiction topic!
