Second Grade Scientists

As we begin to wrap up balance and motion, second graders have been revisiting their favorite experiments.  Through reading and writing, the students have been able to make connections between the projects they have constructed and real-life experiences.

Phonics

Our Second Graders are becoming quite the phonics professors! They are now able to count syllables, recognize vowel teams, digraphs, blends, r-controlled vowels, silent e, and long and short vowels. Our sound bags have been a popular activity.  The students get so excited to share their silly stories with the class! If you have not had the opportunity to create a sound bag with your child, please look out for it within the next few weeks!

ART

Miss Libby has been having a great time teaching the class about colors!  They enjoyed painting rainbows and learning the difference between warm and cool colors.  This week they made beautiful cubist trees using warm fall colors for the leaves and cool blue tones for the sky.  Our artists used cubism to outline the top of the tree, which made each one unique.
