Second Grade Stars!

Bird Study

Second Graders have started to wrap up the research portion of their Bird Study. This week, they focused on gathering information about the bird’s prey, predators, eggs, and hatchlings. Second Graders discovered the dimensions of their bird’s eggs and the risks that the egg faces in the wild. Through deeper research, Second Graders found interesting facts about their bird’s hatchlings such as who incubates, how long it takes the bird to learn to fly, and much more.

Vocabulary

Scholars have started studying bird words for vocabulary and are so excited! Words we focused on this week included; keen, flutter, swift, glide, rare, and hover. We played our class favorite game of charades to review these words and practiced using them to describe our scholars’ birds.

Math

Mathematicians have used this week to review 3 digit addition and subtraction through math games such as How Close? and Target Number. As a whole group, Mathematicians solved 3 digit addition and subtraction problems on their whiteboards and explained their strategies.
