Reading

This week we talked about how people have debates in book clubs. We discussed that everyone is welcome to have their own opinions and that it is important to listen to each other’s sides. We took a look at Frog and Toad and read a few of their stories. One group was assigned to write reasons why Toad is a good friend and the other side was to come up with ideas of why he might not be a good friend. They worked hard on building their cases and each made very valid points in supporting their side! It was so fun to watch!

Bird Study

Our Bird Study unit has gotten even more exciting! Students have chosen the birds that they will study and they are thrilled to be starting their research. Second Graders have fully embraced this unit and have been quite the bird watchers during outdoor time. They are absorbing so many facts and love sharing them with others. One of our favorite areas in the classroom is our Bird Museum where we have a collection of fun things related to birds. Children have come in with nests, feathers, bones and even the tail of a turkey! Having this hands on exhibit truly helps encourage their excitement and brings their learning to another level.

Highlight on Miss Hillary!

Miss Hillary does more than just outside movement during her sessions. She brings her creativity into the classroom as well, and plays challenging, but fun games! This week she introduced the children to an exciting game called Taps. It is a game that tests speed along with being able to distinguish right from left with their hands crossed. It is a lot harder than you would think! There were a lot of laughs, and all exhibited superior sportsmanship!
