Second Week of Second Grade!

Hopes and Dreams

Second Graders were very excited to share their goals for the year. Students considered things in their life they wanted to work on this school year, whether it be their organization, improving their reading, or many other fantastic goals. We all decided what objectives we wanted to achieve by the end of the year and created our Hopes and Dreams, complete with our own shooting stars!

Science

Second Graders began their Balance and Motion science module this week. In this unit they will learn scientific vocabulary such as weight, counterweight, stable, balance, point, and mobile. This week students experimented with balancing different objects and using clothespins as counterweights. Second Graders have really enjoyed this new scientific adventure.

Centers

In Second Grade, “Centers” takes place on Wednesdays and is a time for students to have some enrichment related to our curriculum. During this time, each student works on center activities, at their own pace, completing projects in each subject area. This week, students had the opportunity to explore place value using manipulatives, create balance mobiles, create describing words based on their senses, and write main character reviews. Ask your child which center was their favorite this week.
