Seed Scientists!

Science

Scientists were so excited to move into our science unit this week! We kicked off our seed investigations by taking a look inside four different seed bearing fruits and comparing and contrasting the characteristics of the seeds. Students thoroughly enjoyed opening up the fruit and picking out as many seeds as they could!

Reading

We began our poetry unit this week by exploring how to properly read a poem. Readers realized this week that sometimes reading poetry can be tricky because there can be a literal meaning and a deep meaning. We also began a new read aloud; Amber Was Brave, Essie Was Smart by Vera Williams, which is a short book of poems about two young sisters.

Writing

This week, writers jumped into our poetry unit. Writers began by investigating the language used in poetry and how to paint a picture for readers. Writers also learned how to read through a poem to get a feel for the poem and how line breaks change the tone of our writing!
