Singing in the Rain

This week we encountered a little bit of foul weather, yet we did not let that stop us from singing and dancing in the rain! We are thankful the rain held off for the most part, however, we enjoyed it while it was here because you can’t have a rainbow without a little rain.

Cohorts have been experimenting with discovering their own curiosities, while also mentoring younger students to do the same; Cohorts had the opportunity to connect and mentor with Kindergarteners and First Graders virtually this week. We got to discover what youngins are truly curious about, in order to research answers to their questions and report back via podcast!

What’s happening in Science:

Scientists have been looking up this week as we investigated the atmosphere and barometric pressure. Thinking about air and visualizing its mass, despite its invisibility, made for interesting scientific discussions.

This week in Writing:

We have begun editing our narratives this week! Students have been practicing using helpful writer’s tools to continue making improvements on their stories. During centers this week, students had the opportunity to practice keyboarding in preparation for typing their final drafts of their narrative writing.

What’s going on in Math:

This week, Fifth Grade mathematicians began adding and subtracting numbers based on place value, after taking their mid-module assessment. Sixth Graders began creating ratio tables and comparing ratios by finding the value. Middle Schoolers applied this knowledge and explored these concepts further during centers, where they found the ratios of different colored and shaped organic cereal, or played place value games to increase fluency, to apply what they learned from class.

Parents, I know the way this curriculum is structured may feel unfamiliar, so I put together a folder with some parent newsletters and resources explaining how to help your child out at home:

Here is also a Youtube playlist of tutorial videos broken down by each lesson:

I hope you find these resources helpful, please let me know if you have any questions/ concerns?

This has been a great week to dance in the rain, and we are looking forward to all of the fun activities planned for next week!
