Smooth Sailing in Kindergarten!

Smoothing Out Our Reading
Kindergarteners dove excitedly into their reading lives this week. Students spent the week activating all of their reading super powers as they explored new books in their reading bags. Students worked on using the magic of their reading superpowers to smooth out their reading and build their fluency. Our Kindergarten classroom is filled with a love of reading and all of the exciting adventures it will take us on!

Writers Make Big Decisions!
Students continued their show and tell writing unit this week by examining mentor texts to investigate some of the choices that they have as authors and illustrators. These observant students noticed that sometimes authors write a lot of little labels for a big illustration to show and tell about a topic. Kindergarteners also noticed that sometimes an author will write whole sentences to describe a lot of different illustrations on one page. These young authors and illustrators were thrilled to discover that they could even add flaps to their own show and tell books after enjoying a lift the flap book about transportation during a read aloud! Kindergarten creativity is not in short supply in our classroom!

Butterfly Buddies
Kindergarteners were excited to return from break this week to find the caterpillars in our classroom eagerly waiting for them. We have spent the week studying the lifecycle of a butterfly and have been filled with curiosity as we watch each caterpillar grow and get themselves ready for their magical transformation to form chrysalides. We are eagerly waiting to see the metamorphosis of our butterfly friends!
