So Much Kindergarten Love!

Halloween Part Deux
Kindergarteners returned this week for a special Halloween celebration. We were so excited to welcome them back in costume for a day of Halloween hijinks. We spent our day crafting Jack-o-lanterns and spiderwebs, playing spooky math games, watching a Halloween movie, and even building a pumpkin volcano! Our day was filled with magic and laughter and we felt so grateful for the opportunity to celebrate together.

Words in a Snap!
Kindergarteners have been busy working hard on their sight word power during Reading Workshop, Writing Workshop and Phonics. Young readers have been gaining fluency with these words as they read and reread familiar texts. Kindergarten writers have been learning about the many ways that they can make their writing easy to read. One strategy they have learned is to use their snap words in the narratives that they are writing. These busy scholars have also been practicing, identifying, spelling and recording these words in engaging ways during phonics instruction. As students begin to master these high frequency words, they are gaining reading and writing power that will take them far.

Numbers to 10
This week, Kindergarteners wrapped up our first Math module as they mastered their numbers to 10. We have been so proud as Kindergarteners show off all of their number knowledge, blowing us away as they worked on counting with one-to-one correspondence. Students have bravely worked to order, count, and write up to ten objects to answer how many from linear, array, circular, and scattered configurations. We are so proud of our courageous mathematicians!
