SSR

Students have been enjoying Silent Sustained Reading, otherwise known as SSR.  This is a quiet time where children are given the opportunity to choose their own book.  Silent Sustained Reading is an important part of our day.  It provides a time where they are able to build confidence by allowing students to use their skills to attack new words and concepts, as well as having them take ownership of their own learning.  Ask your child what they have been reading!

Centers

Centers take place every Wednesday.  This is a time where learning extensions are planned for the children and they are able to explore and learn on their own.  All subject areas are covered throughout the day and provide an opportunity for students to take what they have learned to another level. Not only does it allow children to be creative, but it also reinforces concepts that they have been learning during the week.

Drama

Our Second Graders have been having a great time with Mr. Ryan on Mondays during Drama!  Children have been learning the art of acting through interactive activities including art, movement, and taking turns acting out funny voices to the class.  This week they explored the importance of using makeup while on the stage and were given the opportunity to be creative by coloring various faces with crayons and markers!
