Solid Shapes & Friendships

Solid Shapes
Students were so ready to begin exploring solid shapes this week. Kindergarteners could not wait to share all that they know about different solid shapes and what makes them unique. We were excited to hear all of the things students were familiar with in our world that are made of spheres, pyramids, cones, cubes, and cylinders!

Fluency Partners
Kindergarteners were excited to use all of their reading skills to work with their fluency partners this week! As students have worked to master reading fluently, they know this means sounding less like a robot by smoothing the words out to sound like they do when they talk. Kindergarteners were ready for a challenge. This week, we introduced fluency games to play with partners. Young readers blew us away with their excitement and bravery while building their fluency skills!

Layers of the Rainforest
This week, students took a deeper dive into the Amazon Rainforest. We explored further the indigenous Yanomami Tribe, from the clothing they wear, the food they eat, to the homes they live in. Kindergarteners took a great interest in the 4 layers of the rainforest: the emergent layer, the canopy, the understory, and the forest floor. Students discussed the different climates as well as the different creatures that live in each layer!
