Spring Break is Here!

Wow! We cannot thank everyone enough for joining us for our 2023 Spread the Word. The student’s put in a tremendous amount of work in preparation for this event and it showed in their performances. We were truly impressed and proud of them for their poise on stage and their incredible writing. The rest of the week was wonderful leading up to Spring Break, which is from April 3rd to April 10th. We hope you have a very restful week off and we look forward to getting back afterwards!

Here’s a look at what is happening in each of the classes:

What’s happening in Science?
Fifth graders made videos this week about what they have learned so far during our astronomy unit! Some of the things we have covered include phases of the moon, what causes day/night, constellations, solar eclipses, and the solar system. The fifth graders put lots of time, energy, and imagination into their scripts and their videos. I will send a link! When we return from Spring Break, we will learn more about what makes Earth so special compared to the other planets in our solar system…water!

What’s up in ELA?
Wow! Amazing authors and presenters can be found in The Cooper Middle School student population. I hope you were proud of your student’s written work and their oral presentations. Pieces that were shared caused me to laugh, while others made me reflect on the world we currently live in. Well done, middle school students!

Fifth graders will focus on finishing up their fantasy stories. They will also begin a new unit titled “Argument and Advocacy: Researching Debatable Issues.”

What’s going on in Math?
This week, fifth graders wrapped up their Multiplication and Division with Fractions Unit! On Friday, the students took a small formative assessment. We will review and take the unit assessment after Spring Break. We are then moving into graphing ordered pairs on the coordinate plane, which I am so excited to be able to teach and see them understand! Have a restful and joy-filled Spring Break!

What’s happening in Social Studies?
Students had an educational filled week while diving deep into Africa! Students explored early civilizations through the colonization of Africa!

When the students return, we will be diving into Africa today! Students will be asked to pick an African country to then research and present to their peers about. Students will be asked to shuffle through primary and secondary sources to find the information needed!
