Spring Has Sprung!

Numbers to 20
Brave mathematicians have been working hard identifying and using partner numbers that make 10. As these numbers have gotten easier and easier for students, we jumped to numbers through 20 this week! Students used number grids to identify patterns in double digit numbers, counting tools to work out problems, and practiced writing numbers 11-20. We are very proud of the number knowledge in our classroom!

Acrostic Poetry
Kindergarten poets jumped directly back into poetry writing by taking a dive into a new poetry style, acrostic poetry! Students learned to choose a topic they know about. Using this topic, they chose a word to write vertically on their page. With each letter, students wrote words or phrases to describe the people and things they know and care about! We saw so much beautiful poetry about themselves, Spring, and kittens!

Welcome, Dr Ev!
This week, we had a special visit from our friend, Dr. Ev, who is our Middle School ELA teacher. Dr. Ev shared some of her experiences growing up in the Virgin Islands, as well as all of the three main islands that make it up: St. Croix, St. Thomas, St. John. She also shared with us a fun new read aloud, Nelly Gnu and Daddy Too by Anna Dewdney. During this riveting read-aloud, Kindergarteners lit up with excitement as they enjoyed Dr. Ev’s character voices and energy!
