Spring Has Sprung!

Monarch Migration
This week, Kindergarteners were excited to celebrate the return of monarch butterflies as they made their return north for the spring season. In the fall, students participated in Journey North’s Monarch Migration project where we created butterflies of our own that “migrated” to Mexico. Once these butterflies finished their journey, they were mixed with kids from all over North America to return for the Spring! Using a map, Kindergarteners were so excited to mark how far our little friends had traveled.

Numbers to 20
Brave mathematicians have been working hard identifying and using partner numbers that make 10. As these numbers have gotten easier and easier for students, we jumped to numbers through 20 this week! Students used number grids to identify patterns in double digit numbers, counting tools to work out problems, and practiced numbers 11-20. We are very proud of the number knowledge in our classroom!

The Mouse and the Motorcycle
Before Spring Break, Kindergarteners could not contain their excitement to learn about our next read aloud book. Students have fallen in love this year with Elmer and the Dragon, Jenny Linsky, and now Charlotte’s Web. We could not wait to get back together this week and start The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary. Kindergarteners are loving hearing all about the adventures and mishaps of Ralph, a mouse who befriends a boy with a toy motorcycle.
