Studious Third Graders !!

Artists of the Month

Our Third Grade artists were so proud to be a part of the Artist of the Month series alongside their 6th grade and kindergarten peers. In art class, scholars worked with Miss Henslee to capture true qualities in themselves to produce a self portrait along with a personal piece of art. The audience was able to stroll through the art gallery and read each artists’ statement explaining their artwork, what they used to create it, and why it’s meaningful to them.

Poetry Reading

This week, Third Graders have fallen in love with the narrative poetry book, Love that Dog by Sharon Creech. This book is about a boy who doesn’t like poetry but has to keep a poetry journal. Following Jack, the narrator, through a year in poetry we get to watch him discover the joy of poetry and the power of words. Third Graders have enjoyed reading and discovering along with Jack, as well as finding inspiration for their own writing in his words.

Tribute Poem

On Thursday second, third and fourth graders all came together for a poetry workshop. Scholars learned what animal charity we will be donating to this year and were ecstatic. Students came together to write a poem for the Hallie Hill Animal Sanctuary. Students brainstormed and wrote first drafts for tribute poems. We can’t wait to find out which poem will be chosen and share it later with you all!
