Studious Third Graders !!!

Reading

This week, Third Graders read The Year of the Dog. This story, written by Chinese American author Grace Lin, is about a young girl trying to find her place in the world as a Chinese girl in American culture. Based loosely on her life, Grace Lin relates so beautifully to Third Graders’ thinking and feelings. Through this story, students worked on identifying character traits through their actions and words in the story.

Writing

This week in Writing Workshop students completed their compliment books. Third Graders worked so hard to put the finishing touches on their compliments. We are so proud of the well thought out compliments our students gave each other. We can’t wait to share these amazing books with you all on Valentine’s Day and during our Book Fair, Bingo and Bake Sale event!!

Self-Assessment

Writing Workshop this week was spent self-assessing throughout subject areas.  We began with a general student self-assessment where students were asked to write about their feelings about school in general.  Next, students did some writing about themselves as writers.  They had to think deeply about their strengths and weaknesses and their likes and dislikes.  There is a lot more work to be done, but we look forward to sharing these self-assessments with parents!
