Studying Nonfiction

Writing

We have officially started our unit of The Art of Informational Writing! Students have chosen a topic for their informational books that they will be writing throughout the unit. They got to be the teachers for a day and teach their friends all that they know about their topic. This week we learned how to organize our writing and different structures that nonfiction writers use.

Reading

As we headed into our nonfiction unit on Reading to Learn, students learned to look for clues and knowledge as they learned more and more from their new books. Students were able to learn so many things from reading pennies and ask questions that they still had after reading them. We discovered that books are not the only types of nonfiction writing in the world!

Social Studies

Our Community Change Makers unit is off to a blazing start! Students started this unit off by creating identity webs and were able to look within themselves and discover what makes each of them unique. We have begun our research and are excited for every one to discover how just one person can make a difference in the world.
