Super in Second Grade!

Off to a Great Start!

Week of August 28, 2020

Morning Meeting

This week, Second Graders have loved Morning Meeting! It is an amazing way to start our mornings and we learn something new about each other every day! During Morning Meeting, we begin by sharing a welcome greeting, sharing thoughts and ideas, followed by an activity. We close our meeting by reading a group message. Creative Second Graders enjoyed stretching their imaginations with a Morning Meeting activity called, “This Looks Like an eraser”.  Another favorite class activity from this week was “would you rather”. In this activity students looked under their chair for a secret note.  Each student had 2 different items on their note and the students shared which item they would rather have. Ask your Second Grader which activity and greeting they enjoyed the most during Morning Meeting this week!

Reading

Second Graders came back to school so very excited to read! This week we visually explored the classroom library and individual book bags. Students were ready to dive into our reading routines. We reviewed how we should look and sound during Sustained Silent Reading. Second Grade scholars read a variety of texts as they explored their reading choices. I look forward to reading a variety of literature this year with these amazing readers!

Meeting “Butters”

Second Graders spent time getting to know our class pet this week. “Butters” is a male Syrian Hamster. Second Graders delighted in learning about hamsters, asking a lot of questions, and saying, “hi” to Butters everyday. Stay tuned to learn more about our fluffy class pet.
