Thankful Little Turkeys!

Gratitude
Every November, Cooper School students and staff begin their discussion of Gratitude.  This unit culminates with the final copy of Gratitude Books prepared with love for families and friends.  These books are a labor of love that the students put a lot of thought into before their final copy is created.  The outer covers of these books are painted by the Kindergarten class using gorgeous homemade natural dyes. Inside the books, are the six things that the students are most grateful for in their lives. We hope that you enjoy these treasures that your Kindergarteners have worked so hard to prepare for you!

Words in a Snap!
Kindergarteners have been busy working hard on their sight word power during Reading Workshop, Writing Workshop and Phonics. Young readers have been gaining fluency with these words as they read and reread familiar texts. Kindergarten writers have been learning about the many ways that they can make their writing easy to read. One strategy they have learned is to use their snap words in the narratives that they are writing. These busy scholars have also been practicing, identifying, spelling and recording these words in engaging ways during phonics instruction. As students begin to master these high frequency words, they are gaining reading and writing power that will take them far.

A New View
Kindergarteners were thrilled to leave for Thanksgiving break with new seats in our classroom! This week, students practiced moving and transitioning between new carpet and table seats. These exciting changes allowed for students to get a new view of the classroom and to sit with different peers at their table spots!
