The Luck of Second Grade!

Acrostic Poems

This week students have been practicing writing acrostic poems in centers! We have been diving deep into all different styles of poetry. Acrostic poems are a great way for students to have fun with different ways to write poetry. An acrostic is a poem or other word composition in which the first letter of each new line spells out a word, message or the alphabet. Students have been spelling out so many fun and different words. We love seeing their poetry inspiration come to life!

Creating our Rock Museum!

This week our rock museum has come to life! Second graders have begun bringing in a collection of all different types of rocks. In our classroom we have a wonderful display of different rocks and geodes that students have collected. Each day a group of students gets the chance to investigate and explore our rock museum. As second grade geologists students love learning and looking at all of our rocks in the museum!

Illustrate a Line

In centers this week students are choosing a poem line at random. Using their imagination they are drawing a picture that represents the line of the poem. However, they do not know the rest of the poem. Their illustration only represents one line in the poem and how they interpret it. In the end we will put all the illustrations together to create a poem!
