Third Grade News !!

Social Studies

This week in Social Studies scholars continued studying South Carolina. Students learned that Columbia is the capital of South Carolina. Our students learned about the rivers in SC, such as the Santee river, Edisto river, Pee Dee river and Saluda river. Third graders even explored the compass on the map. We can’t wait to dig deeper into this unit!

This week in math our scholars have started subtraction. Students are learning to use subtraction within 1000. Our scholars were excited to learn a new strategy for subtraction. Third Graders learned how to use the 3-digit expanded form strategy. We can’t wait to learn more ways to solve subtraction with bigger numbers.

Our Third Grade scholars are digging deeper into our new reading unit this week. Students have continued reading their series chapter books and looking for character traits. Our readers looked for external and internal character traits and compared them with other students in our class. Scholars are so excited to learn more about our character studies unit!
