Third Grade News

Reading

Third Grade spent the week working on character studies in Reading Workshop. Students have discussed ways to get to know characters from patterns in behavior, speech, and predicting deeper theories as to why characters act and say the things they do. Students have been so excited to apply these skills to new characters as well as familiar friends.

Writing

Third Graders are learning all about expressing their opinions through writing.  Earlier in the week, the students wrote persuasive essays explaining their reasons for wanting a “Free Dress Day” at The Cooper School.  Some of the reasons were, “so people can express their style”, “so others can be easy to find on the playground”, and “so it would be easier to get dressed in the morning.”

The Third Grade students presented their essays to Miss Anne Wil who was persuaded to allow the entire school a “Free Dress Day”  on Friday, December 13th.  We are very proud of our persuasive Third Graders!

Math

Third Grade students have been excited to learn about measuring different objects to the ½ inch.  Earlier this week, the students went on a measuring scavenger hunt around the classroom. Students measured pencils, books, hand sanitizer bottles, and many more items.  The students were excited to come together and share their measurement discoveries with the class!
