This Week in Second Grade

Researching for ExperimentsPoetry Practice

Second graders have been diving into their poetry in both reading and writing. In reading they have been sent on hunts to find different examples of poetry. Students had to find a poem that displayed an example of line breaks. After taking some time to read and investigate they were then asked to share with the class. Second graders enjoy hearing from other class members poems they have found during their reading time. It is also great practice for reading poetry aloud for Pass It On. The best part is seeing their peers smile and enjoy the poem that they have chosen to share with the class.

Poetry Coming to Life

During the last few weeks of our poetry unit, students have been exploring different types of poetry in centers. Students have had the opportunity to try out different styles of poetry and different ways of expressing themselves. Our classroom has come alive with collages, illustrations, and poetry that has been arranged and written by the students. Second graders love to express their writing and creativity through different mediums as well as see their work displayed in the classroom.

Second graders each day are getting closer to creating their stickiest glues. Students are learning that the experimental process can take a long time. During this time, students have been experimenting with mixtures and collecting data. As well as researching different ingredients that may be used in creating glue. Students have been reading books and finding specific information about ingredients that will be introduced into the experiment. They are getting very eager to create and test their final glue mixtures!
