Thriving Third Graders

Reading

This week, students have been reading different fairy tales in their reading groups to find similarities between them, and identify characteristics that most fairy tales share. Students have also been enjoying hearing different adaptations of fairy tales that we’re familiar with such as The Penguin and the Pea by Janet Perlman. We also are enjoying our fairy tale read aloud so much: The Sisters Grimm: The Fairy-Tale Detectives by Michael Buckley.

Science

This week in science we started a new unit on water. Scholars have been experimenting with water on different surfaces. Scholars placed droplets of water on wax paper, aluminum foil, paper towels and regular paper. Scholars were amazed to see how the water droplets moved and changed on these different surfaces. Scholars even experimented with different types of water such as salt water and water with soap. We can’t wait to dig deeper into the unit.

Partner Play

This week Third Graders have been focusing on partner play. Students were partnered up every day with a friend in our class during snack time. This gives our scholars a chance to build unlikely friendships with friends they may not talk to as much as others. We loved watching our partnered up friends running around and laughing during outside time. Scholars were ecstatic to find out they had so much in common with each other.
