Geometry All Around
Third Grade mathematicians spent this week further exploring the wonderful world of geometry! Third Graders investigated line segments, rays and lines and then explored the relations of these parts when they are put together to form various polygons and angles. Scholars worked together completing hands-on activities to build various angles, triangles and even conducted geometry scavenger hunts in our classroom.
Book Clubs
This week Third Grade Book Clubs launched Book #2 in their Series Study! Scholars met on Monday to discuss their reading goals for the week and decide how many pages they needed to read in order to finish the book by Friday. Readers noticed familiar characters and settings as they eagerly dove into the second book in their series. Each group spent time talking about character patterns and discussing what could be fueling these characters’ actions. Scholars used their discussion markers to engage in their book club chats. Third Graders know to uses phrases such as “I agree/disagree with you about…” and “I would like to add on to… “ , to share their thoughts about the text.
100th Day of Third Grade and New Playground Equipment!
This Wednesday was the 100th day of school! Third Graders shared ways that they felt stronger as a learner and a friend during our morning meeting on the 100th day of school. Scholars compared their skills and knowledge from the first day of Third Grade to their 100th day of school. These bright students shared that they felt like better problem-solvers and were thrilled to celebrate the 100th day of school by completing 100 exercises throughout our day as “brain breaks”. Third Graders also welcomed a parade of 100 year-old Kindergarteners during our math lesson!
Students at The Cooper School were thrilled to welcome new equipment on our school’s playground on the 100th day of school! Excited students watched the crew as they worked to add a new swing set and a climber to our back yard.
