The Cooper School Daily

Week of February 6th

February is off to a fabulous start! This week First Graders completed their compliment books, visited their Kindergarten teachers during Move Up Day, and learned about the celebratory season of Mardi Gras! Read on for an inside look at this week in First Grade.

Compliment Books

On Thursday, students finished writing their book of compliments to each of their classmates. On Friday, the whole class started working on detailed illustrations to accompany their compliments! We are excited for these beautiful keepsakes to come home with your First Grader following the Valentine’s Bake Sale, Book Fair, & Bingo event on Tuesday!

Move Up Day

On Friday morning First Graders revisited Kindergarten as Kinderbuddies moved up to First Grade for Move Up Day! Kinderbuddies played math games, listened to a fun read aloud and learned all about being a First Grader at the Cooper School.

Mardi Gras

On Friday afternoon our First Graders got to learn about the season of Mardi Gras which occurs annually from Epiphany (January 6th) until Shrove Tuesday (the last day before the beginning of the Lent). This season, also known as Carnival Season, is filled with parades, fancy balls, and of course King Cake! First Graders loved getting a taste of this New Orleans tradition.
