Week of March 20th

This week, First Graders were visited by an old class buddy, published their Poetry for Pass it On, started a Measurement unit in Math, and began their investigation of Solids & Liquids in Science. Read on to hear all about this week’s happenings in First Grade!

Poetry

First Grade poets have been hard at work creating beautiful poetry for this year’s Pass it On event! The proceeds of the Pass it On event this year will be benefiting Hallie Hill Animal Sanctuary, a wonderful rescue for dogs & cats located in Hollywood, South Carolina. If you would like to learn more about Hallie Hill and its mission to help animals in need you can access their website here. Below, students work to add onomatopoeia to their poetry pieces in their portfolio.

Measurement

On Monday, students began a new Illustrative Math unit focused on Measurement! Students have loved searching around the room to compare the lengths, widths, & heights of various objects. Below, a group of students work to measure a friend’s height. After some time, they discover that he is 70 unifix cubes tall!

Science

First Graders have loved diving into our study of Solids & Liquids! The unit began with exploring the differences between solids and liquids and brainstorming examples of each. We are excited to participate in some fun science experiments to explore the properties of solids and liquids in the weeks to come!
