The Cooper School Daily

Week of May 8th

We enjoyed a marvelous week in First Grade! This week, First Graders learned how to tell time, began their author expert books, and conducted a science experiment with High Touch High Tech! Read on for a detailed look at this week in First Grade.

Geometry & Time

This week, students launched into an investigation of using time as a standard of measurement. Students explored analog clocks and learned how to move the hour & minute hands to express different times of day. Below, a student practices moving the hands of the clock to mark three o’clock.

Author Expert

This week students began writing their own stories inspired by their author! Students chose mentor texts on which to base their own stories. Then, students brainstormed their own characters, setting, problem and solution. Below, a student illustrates the characters she created based on the Magic Tree House series written by Mary Pope Osborne.

High Touch High Tech

On Thursday, First Graders were visited by High Touch High Tech, a local organization dedicated to bringing science to life in the classroom. Together, we conducted  fun experiments themed around our Solids & Liquids science unit.
