Math
This week in math third graders started a new unit on measurement. On Tuesday, they went around the classroom and measured objects to match with given measurements. On Wednesday, we studied measurements to the nearest half-inch and fourth-inch and reviewed how measurements utilize fractions to get exact measurements. We are loving this new unit so far!
Poetry
Third Graders have been diving into poetry the past few weeks. Through listening, reading and writing, the children have really grasped a solid understanding of the art of poetry. Students continued writing their final drafts of their poems after brainstorming ideas. Each student is going to have two poems completed and typed in order to submit them for this year’s “Pass It On” book of poems. Students will present one poem to family and friends at this special event on May 9th. Students are very excited for their work to be published.
Science
This week in science third graders continued our motion & matter unit. Third graders were able to make their very own spinning top. Scholars used shafts, small-size disks, and large-size disks to make the top. Our third-grade scientists had to determine which size disks would better suit the top to make it spin. Lastly, scholars got to design their very own paper spinners. Ask your child what their favorite part of science was this week!
