Welcoming December !!!

Reading

This week in Reading we started our new unit of Character Studies! In this unit we will be deepening our understanding and our ideas about the characters in our books. We jumped in with new series books and reading partners and are excited to learn more about our new characters that we are just getting to know.

Social Studies

We are continuing our study of South Carolina by taking a look at the cultures that have developed throughout our state’s history. We learned about the Cherokee, Chickasaw, and Yemassee Native American tribes, then dove into the European Exploration that led to the colonization of South Carolina by the English. We closed the week by taking a deep look into the evolution of slavery in South Carolina and the development and emergence of the Gullah Culture.

Writing

This week in Writing Workshop, writers launched the art of information writing! Writers brainstormed topics that they know tons of information about. We created a Table of Contents for our writing and have started writing our chapters. We can’t wait to share these at a later date!!
