Welcoming December!

Mapping

This week in First Grade we launched a new unit! We are all excited and jazzed for our first Social Studies unit to be all about maps! We have spent this week learning a new set of vocabulary that we can use to speak about maps and the world. We have explored globes and discovered the seven continents! Our scholars have been filling our classroom with the sound of our “Seven Continents” song. We are excited to discover all there is to learn about the wonderful world of maps!

Writing Like a Critic

Our First Grade authors are excited to start a new writing unit. Our opinionated scholars are learning how to write like a critic! We will be spending this writing unit learning about how to write reviews. We have been practicing backing up our opinions with reasons. We are looking forward to reading our writers’ critics and reviews about the world around them!

Math

Our First Grade mathematicians have been working hard on their new math unit. Our students are learning how to add and subtract within 20. We are practicing building fluency with adding and subtracting within 10. Students will also learn how to find the value that makes an addition or subtraction equation true, involving 10. We are so excited for all that their new unit offers!
