Academic Support

At The Cooper School, we aim to meet the unique needs of all our students. Recognizing that some learners may have diverse learning requirements or social/emotional needs, we have established the Student Support Team, consisting of classroom teachers, the Student Support Specialist, and the Lower and Middle School directors. This team collaborates to provide additional resources and support, including interventions, specialized instruction through our Student Support program, and classroom accommodations.

While our low teacher-to-student ratio, flexible curriculum, and social-emotional learning program allow for differentiated instruction, the Student Support Team ensures that tailored strategies are employed to guarantee each student’s success in the classroom. Parental involvement is integral at every stage of the Student Support process, with ongoing communication about plans, interventions, and next steps.

The Cooper School may recommend enrollment in our Student Support Program, and if further evaluation is necessary, our Student Support Specialist collaborates with parents to discuss and facilitate professional testing. The parents cover testing expenses, and The Cooper School expects prompt testing and sharing of the full report, respecting confidentiality ethics. For additional Tier 2 and Tier 3 support services, The Cooper School offers specialized instruction initiated through teacher referrals, involving sessions with the Student Support Specialist during the school day.

These sessions occur within the classroom or in small groups, one-to-one settings, and are designed to meet individualized goals established by the support team closely monitored for ongoing progress. Additional fees apply for Tier 2 and Tier 3 support services.
