Lower School Curriculum

At The Cooper School’s Elementary School, encompassing grades K-4, we understand that young children thrive when they learn through exploration, play, and adult guidance. Elementary School students are known for their eagerness, curiosity, imagination, and enthusiasm, and our dedicated teachers harness these characteristics to create a dynamic curriculum that nurtures various learning styles and fosters lifelong habits.

Our curriculum has two important aspects, which provide for student learning needs:

  • Systematic instruction, in which teachers plan activities to help children acquire skills and strategies.
  • Integrated project work, in which students conduct in-depth investigations of important topics and apply skills and strategies to solve real world problems.

Each day, our students engage in reading, writing, math workshops, science, social studies, and project work. We also value the critical need for outdoor time and physical activity, so we incorporate outdoor play, exploration, and recess into our curriculum. Our mission is to keep children actively engaged in meaningful experiences that encourage and sustain their innate curiosity and joy in learning. We empower our students to construct meaning and develop essential life skills through hands-on exploration, integrated learning, practice, relationship building, self-reflection, and a genuine love of learning.
