Thank You Charleston Stage!
Second grade celebrated their last week of drama class. Drama teachers, Miss A and Miss Abby, read aloud “Last Stop on Market Street” and asked our second graders to help add sound effects that go along with each page. Students enjoyed playing an act and guess game where half of the class acted out a scene from our book while the other half of the class guessed what scene they thought it was. We have enjoyed watching our actors put all their acting tools together to create scenes and make their characters come to life! Thank you Charleston Stage for a fun two weeks of drama!
Adding and Subtracting within 100
Our mathematicians started a new unit of math this week! Second graders will be adding and subtracting within 100 using strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and the relationship between addition and subtraction. This week students focused on using methods to help them add and subtract that makes sense to them. Students loved using diagrams and 3D cubes to help them problem solve.
Final Edits
This week second graders showed off their amazing small moment stories to their class. Students have been editing their stories and illustrations to grasp their reader’s attention. This week students made their final edits. Second graders created a narrative and editing checklist to help them edit. Students made sure their narrative checklist included: an attention grabbing beginning, a story told in chronological order, a story written specifically about a small moment that happened to them, a story that brought their characters to life using detail and dialogue, chose strong words to help readers imagine their story, and adding feeling, talk, and action to create a strong ending. When second graders created their editing checklist they made sure to include the use of correct spacing and lining on a page, capitalization, punctuation, and spelling. Students cannot wait to share their edited small moment stories with you all soon!
