Science has 4th Grades Heart!

It’s been a wonderful week of learning in 4th grade!

Science

4th grade students were mesmerized by another investigation of the human body! This week we’ve been focusing on organs in the body. Fourth grader’s were lucky enough to have Dr. Ozark, neuroscientist and parent, return to lead another lesson discussing the human body. Dr. Ozark led the class in a fascinating dissection of a sheep’s heart, explaining its functions and parts. They were also able to track their resting heart rate and compare its beats per minute during play at recess. Students were amazed by all of its parts, and how hard our hearts are constantly working for us!

Reading

This week the class has been enthusiastically honing their debating skills. Students have been exploring character’s from our class read aloud as well as independent reading stories, delving deeper into their personalities and motivations. By supporting their insights with evidence from the text, they are enhancing their understanding of the characters, as well as enriching their writing. Through these exercises students are deepening their comprehension and critical thinking as readers and starting to engage with characters more intentionally.

Specials

The class has been loving getting exposure to our wide array of special classes offered this year! Students got to independently pick the song they’re working on in choir, as well as fine tuning their ukulele skills. In Spanish, our 4th graders are working hard on conversational words and colors. They have even found their zen in yoga on Wednesday mornings!
