To New Beginnings!

“The beginning is the most important part of the work.”

As we step into a new school year with new friends, new classes, new procedures, and new roles, it’s critical to remember the importance of the beginning, of uncertainty, of feeling uncomfortable. It’s in these moments that we set the tone, intention, and energy for the rest of the year. For some of us, this is one of MANY beginnings we’ve had at TCS – but we all still have learning to do. We work out the kinks, set our procedures and routines, create goals, form habits, and forge authentic relationships. The TCS Middle School team has been hard at work to make this beginning as seamless as possible – and I could not be more excited. It’s sure to be a fantastic school year!

AG

Math:

I’m so excited to dive into our 7th grade math content next week! We’ll begin with examining rigid transformations that different shapes can go through on a coordinate plane and use words like rotation, reflection, and translation to describe their transformations.

ELA:

7th grade starts their first unit next week! We will begin with an argumentative writing unit, jumping straight into pre-writing and research skills. Writers will gather evidence from all sides of a complex issue, learning the art of weighing evidence to develop their own informed opinion.

Social Studies:

This year’s subject matter is one of my personal favorites! We will be going over American history, which includes pre-European civilizations in both North and South America up through the American Revolution. We’ll begin the year with the first humans on the continents and how and where they settled.

Science:

Seventh graders launched into their astronomy unit this week! They contemplated whether resources should be utilized for knowledge about space or for the purpose of colonization. They learned about the exploration ideas of Elon Musk and Jeffrey Besos. Next week, they will begin to research in detail about planets in our solar system that could possibly support life.
