Fun Filled Week in Second Grade!

Investigating Water Temperature

This week in our water study, second graders were investigating different temperatures of water. Students were presented with three different cups of water, all looking the same. However, each cup had a different temperature of water inside. Using one finger students had one chance to feel the temperature of the water and then put the cups in order from warmest to coldest. After we discussed the order of the cups the students got to measure the temperature of the water with a thermometer. Finally, they recorded their findings in their science journal.

Writers Correct Their Work

This week second graders are revising their small moment stories. After working on their stories it was time to go back and revise their work. Using special colorful pens, students went back into their writing and looked closely at their writing skills and added detail to their writing. Students are learning about revising by adding emotion, dialogue, and details throughout their whole story. Second graders are excited to add their final touches to their small moment stories.

Lights, Camera, Drama

This week second graders began drama. A group from Charleston Stage came to our classroom everyday and students had the opportunity to work on their drama skills. Students begin by warming up their voices and bodies with different acting techniques. Then as a class they acted out and read a book together. Students have loved watching their books come alive.
