TCS Reporters!

It’s been a great week to be a 4th grader here at TCS!

Writing

Our journalism unit has kicked off and 4th graders are excited to embark on reporting! In this unit, our students will learn skills to become journalists like interviewing, researching, and article writing that engages with their community. They’ll be exploring what’s going on at TCS that captures an audience, and drafting headlines to draw readers in. This unit focuses on creativity and collaboration, not only deepening their understanding as writers, but also what’s going on in the world around them. To kick things off, students had the opportunity to get out of the classroom and interview other students about what was going on in their classes, clubs, and teams for inspiration to draft their first article!

Math

This week, students are continuing to master fractions. The class has advanced to working with mixed and improper fractions. Learning to convert between mixed and improper fractions helps further students’ understanding of the size of a whole. These are valuable skills that students will later build off of in their studies, as well as having important real world application.

S.E.L

“I have no special talents, I am just passionately curious” – Albert Einstein.

For social emotional learning this week, the class has been considering the importance of curiosity. Students were asked to consider the importance of staying curious, and how it can promote learning. Students are encouraged to continually be curious about the world around them and ask questions that aid in reaching full understanding. Our goal in 4th grade is to foster an environment that is safe for curiosity to run wild, having a driving force to discover new things, and encourage lifelong learning.
