This Week in Second Grade!

Learning about our Polar Animals

This week, second graders began conducting research on their polar animal for the Polar Biome/Inuit study! Last week, students found out their animal that they will be researching and presenting for the Polar Biome presentation. Second graders were very eager to start researching and learning all about their animals. Using our class websites and their computer knowledge, students logged onto our website and began researching. Each day they learned something new about their polar animal!

Practicing our Days of the Week

For spelling this week, our second grade class is working on practicing and learning the days of the week. As a class we are learning about how each day of the week got named and the history behind it. Students were fascinated to hear how these words originated so long ago. Afterwards, students began working on spelling and tracing the words as well as spelling activities to help them learn the words. One day we played trash ball which quizzes the students on the words, and if they were correct they got a chance to shoot a basket!

Math Games!

We are wrapping up our unit in math this week and students played math games to reinforce their adding and subtracting skills. These games use spinners and cards to teach students that addition and subtraction can be fun, and sometimes you don’t even realize you are doing math! They are fun to play at school, and can also be played at home with a deck of cards!
