Third Grade is on FIRE!!!

Rocket Math

Third Graders love Rocket Math! Rocket Math is a program that helps students gain automaticity with their basic math facts. The expectation is that students know their addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts as fast as they can read a number.

Rocket Math is an everyday practice that involves five minutes of individual practice on the iPad.  They begin at the letter A and move through all the basic facts until they master it and complete letter Z. Ask your child what letter they are on today!

Fire Safety

Third Graders were thrilled to have visitors from the fire station this week. Charleston Fire Department stopped by to go over important techniques in fire safety. Students were excited to review evacuation planning, ways to prevent fires, and how to react in dangerous situations. Third Graders were elated to get to see and try on the firefighting gear that keeps firefighters safe.

Social Studies

Third Graders began their first Social Studies unit of the year, Community Change Makers. Students began by passing around nonfiction books in Centers with information on many historical figures who have made great changes to our society in the areas of equality, environment, civil rights, and women’s rights. Students are excited to begin working on their projects and learn more about their Change Makers.
